One of the few lakes that are found in the Awi Zone of Amhara region is the Crater Lake of Tirba. A dry-weather road from the zonal administration seat connects the Lake with the main highway of Bahirdar Debere Markos. During the rainy season, visitors have to walk on foot or horses back for 40 minutes from the small town of Gemeja Bet. The area is covered with forests and hosts many bird species.
